Sometimes

Sometimes I remember when
We used to share a smoke or two
With little else for us to do
But share a pack with friends

Joking through the day,
When time spun out before us all,
It passed us by, subliminal,
Before we saw the end

Sometimes I remember now
The highs and lows and inbetweens,
Of problems shared and never seen
By others in the crowd

It seen us through the day,
Those hopes and dreams and fallacies,
I knew those things would never be
The day they lay your shroud

But years have come and gone,
The pain it fades with memory,
And though your light will never leave,
Our lives will carry on

For dreams are there to chase
And though I know you're lost to me,
You'd never wish for me to grieve
When I could catch me one
